My first Photography equipment was selected because of value and price. The equipment I have while may not be the best it does perform better than a standard smart phone or low entry digital camera. I have still not become a professional or a anything about a newbie.
Camera Wise I am using the Nikon D7000. At the time of purchase the camera was at a extremely heavy discount from best buy. I believe I bought the camera with a kit lens for about 500 dollars. The camera itself is a 16 mega pixel camera and in a league of its own compared to my current digital camera. As a new person to photography there is definitely a learning curve to using these cameras. At the time of writing this blog post I have yet to master the camera or even be proficient enough to take shots under short notice. The camera is also capable of taking HD videos and has inputs for microphone if you want to get better audio.
The kit that I purchased with my D7000 included an all around use juggernaut 18 – 105mm VR lens. Since this is the only lens that I have that can provide different focal lengths I’ve used this to take pictures of people relatively close and in my attempts to take pictures of the moon. Not being a professional skews my opinion but I did not have not seen any issues wit the lens. Definitely not anything that would stop me from using the lens anyways.
After many recommendations from co-workers I decided to add a prime lens to my arsenal. The recommended lens was the 35MM. The aperture range on this lens is from 1.8 to 22 which allows me to take pictures in situations where perfect lighting is not available (unlike my kit lens above).
